Friday at the 2013 AC&E had a Blue Angel, awards, a silent auction and dancing. How could it get any better?
The General Session & Awards with keynote speaker John Foley, a former lead solo with the Blue Angels, highlighted the day. John's energy enthralled those in attendance, showing them breathtaking videos of him in the cockpit of a Blue Angels jet. He continued his high energy presentation demonstrating the parallels between an elite team like the Blue Angels and what credit unions do everyday. He challenged credit unions to think about verbal contracts, to push for company wide accountability and for leadership to lead by example. Attendees walked away with powerful ideas that can immediately accelerate their performance both as individuals and as a company.
The LSCU & Affiliates handed out seven awards:
Volunteer of the Year - Roger Turnquist, Army Aviation Center FCU
Young Professional of the Year - Brooke Covington, Alabama State Employees CU
Professional of the Year - Jim Mitchell, Army Aviation Center FCU
Distinguished Service - Betty Petree, Pen Air FCU
Credit Union of the Year:
Under $100 million in assets - Tallahassee-Leon FCU
Between $100 and $500 million in assets - Five Star CU
Over $500 million in assets - Achieva CU
Pen Air FCU did not tell Betty that she had won the distinguished service award before the ceremony. She found out when the video played with her name on it. Her picture will now hang in the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington, D.C.
Educational breakout sessions were offered in the morning and the afternoon. Nearly every session was standing room only. The Small Assets Sized Roundtable was well attended with credit unions sharing ideas and best practices. The BSA and economic outlook were two of the more anticipated sessions. If you would like the handouts from any session, visit the
LSCU AC&E page and click on the session of your choice. The exhibit hall also hosted breakfast Friday morning giving attendees three opportunities to connect.
The wound down with the Vegas style
Annual Dinner, Entertainment, & Silent Auction. The Rat Pack provided the entertainment during dinner and then the band stayed on allowing attendees to dance well into the evening. The Silent Auction was a huge success for the PACs and Children’s Miracle Network. The auction raised more than $15,000 after the more than 120 items were auctioned off.
Mark your calendars for the 2014 AC&E - June 11-13 - in Orlando. See you next year!
