Credit unions are in a position to help America’s small businesses get access to much needed loans. The Credit Union Small Business Jobs Bill,
S. 2231 introduced by Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO), would raise the credit union member business lending cap from 12.25 percent to 27.5 percent of assets. This provision could provide up to $13 billion to small businesses in the first year alone and create over 140,000 new jobs at no cost to taxpayers.
In Alabama, raising the MBL cap would produce an estimated $154 million for small businesses and an additional 1,675 jobs. In Florida, a raised cap would provide an estimated $592 million in additional capital for small businesses while creating roughly 6,400 new jobs.
