Authorities tell us both Tyndall and Innovations Federal Credit Unions have reported several cases of credit card theft. The majority of fraudulent charges were made overseas with Visa credit card numbers, mostly originating in Australia, Italy, and Canada between December 23 and December 26.
Bay County Sheriff's Office Investigator Albert Willis was one of the victims in this fraud blast and says you are more suseptible to credit card fraud during the holidays because of the increased number of transactions, and almost everyone who uses a credit card is at risk.
"There's almost nothing you can do to prevent being a victim of this kind of fraud. These numbers are being accessed from a number of different sources. The main thing to do is check your accounts regularly" Willis says.
Local authorities' have turned the investigation over to the Secret Service. If you think you have become a victim, you are urged to call local law enforcement to receive a case number. From there, notify your bank to begin the reimbursement process.
