The lineup of speakers for next month's CUNA GAC is filling up quickly. Between now and the GAC, Feb. 24-28 in Washington, D.C., a number of lawmakers will be announced. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL) has confirmed he will speak on Wednesday Feb. 27 at 11am. Rep. Bachus is chairman emeritus on the House Financial Services Committee. He spent the past four years as the chairman of that committee before being term limited off following this past election.
Rep. Bachus has addressed the crowd at the CUNA GAC the past two years. He's also been accommodating to credit unions by meeting during the Hill visits that same week. The CUNA GAC is a great opportunity for credit unions to get professional development, network and meet with lawmakers. This year the banks have said they will make a renewed effort to bring the credit union tax exemption up during session. It's imperative that credit unions have good representation during the Hill visits on Wednesday and Thursday of the GAC.
