Be prepared for Hurricane season

Hurricane season opened on June 1 and forecasters are warning of another active year. The NCUA recently communicated to credit unions to make sure they had a disaster plan that was updated. The NCUA encourages credit unions to have basic steps in place in case a disaster strikes.

Those steps include:

  • Ensure a constant state of readiness for your credit union
  • Communicate disaster preparedness before, during, and after the disaster
  • Ensure back ups are available for people, communications, data, and electricity
  • Make sure your disaster plan is a "living document"

The League has resources available for credit unions regarding this topic. Visit the LSCU Disaster Recovery Resources website for LSCU and NCUA disaster tips. Also, the LSCU Disaster Recover Conference is scheduled for July 12-13 in Pensacola.

If you have a question about your disaster plan, contact LSCU VP, Regulatory Affairs Bill Berg at 866.231.0545 ext. 1028.
