Credit unions asked to go to DC for interchange issue

House Financial Services Chairman Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) says that he would like regulatory reform discussions to begin by June 15 and be wrapped up by June 30. This give credit unions very little time to let lawmakers know that the interchange amendment added to S. 3217 will have a negative impact on credit union members.

CUNA and the LSCU are looking for credit unions from Alabama and Florida to take part in a mini Hike the Hill June 8-9 in Washington D.C. It is quick notice, but the League understands how the interchange amendment will effect credit union members. More information about the Washington D.C. meetings will come Thursday afternoon.

The LSCU would like you to consider sending someone from your credit union to DC. If you're interested in going, please let the Governmental Affairs team know and also let them know how many. Contact LSCU Grassroots and Political Action Coordinator's Robbie Gordon (Alabama) at 866.231.0545 ext. 2164 or cell - 205.834.1266 or Justin Thames (Florida) ext. 1010 or cell - 850.345.7795 with any questions or if your credit union can go. Look for more information and an information kit Thursday afternoon.
