Credit unions celebrate International Credit Union Day 2011

Behind the theme "Credit Unions Build a Better World," credit unions and their members around the world celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day to raise awareness about the economic and social contributions that credit unions have made, and give members the opportunity to get more involved!
Credit unions and associations in every part of the world celebrate the day with open houses, contests and picnics, fairs, festivals and parades; others hold athletic competitions and essay or art contests for young members. Public gatherings with visiting dignitaries have effectively attracted media attention and public involvement, as have educational and public service events.
Given the resiliency that credit unions and other cooperatives worldwide have shown throughout the economic recession, this year's International Credit Union (ICU) Day® theme, Local. Trusted. Serving you., focuses on credit unions' trusted, community-focused approach to member service. Financial cooperatives around the globe will celebrate their successes and heritage on Oct. 21 with common themes and promotional campaigns taking place throughout the month of October.
