More than 4,500 credit union officials from across the country converged onto Washington D.C. for the first day of the CUNA GAC. Session speakers included authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann as well as "Miracle on the Hudson" pilot Sully Sullenberger. Sully told the packed house that he had trained for that moment his entire life. He told the crowd to seize their opportunities.

CUNA provided an in-depth legislative update that included its accomplishments in 2010 and the proactive agenda for 2011.The expectations for this week was also highlighted. This was an excellent time for credit unions to get prepared for Hill visits later in the week.

The Exhibit Hall was open for three-and-a-half hours Monday. There are 298 vendors, a record for the CUNA GAC, and also the most for any credit union conference in the country. One Florida CEO said he enjoys the Exhibit Hall because everything you need is in one room while the vendors you already utilize are also here.

The LSCU held a Welcome Reception at the Grand Hyatt. About 100 credit unions officials attended the event. It gave them a chance to hear more about the grassroots efforts of the League and get Hill visit schedules for the later this week. More importantly, though, it gave them a chance to network for an hour and a half.
