Hike the Hill is an important visit for credit unions. It's not just a chance to meet and talk with legislators face-to-face, but a time for all of us to disuss issues like member business lending and the credit union tax exemption.
This year's Hike the Hill will be in conjunction with the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) Congressional Caucus. It makes sense for us to coordinate our visits so our lawmakers hear one unified, strong message. The League Hill visits will be for all credit unions who will be going to the Hike the Hill or in town for the NAFCU Congressional Caucus, and regardless of affiliation with the LSCU. The League looks forward to everyone attending these important meetings. League staff will arrange meetings with the Congressional delegations of both states for the LSCU and NAFCU Congressional Caucus attendees together. For those attending the NAFCU Conference, this means you will not need to schedule your own individual meetings. A schedule of meetings will be sent to all attendees once they are finalized.
To ensure that we schedule meetings for all attendees, and that everyone receives a copy of the schedule of Congressional meetings, it is important that all credit unions
register with the League, including those who will be attending with the NAFCU Congressional Caucus. A
tentative agenda has been set, as well as
flight and hotel information. The cut-off date for the hotel is Aug. 19, so credit unions are urged to make arrangements this week. There is no registration fee for Hike the Hill.
The League is commited to meeting with lawmakers more frequently than just the CUNA GAC. We hope you will consider bringing your board chair or any of your board members to help us promote our credit union grassroots political action. Your visits are crucial in keeping credit unions visible before Congress.
