LSCU & Affiliates offices in Birmingham and Tallahassee will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Offices will re-open on Friday July 5. The LSCU & Affiliates wishes everyone a safe and festive July 4 holiday.

Did you know? July 4 was the day that the Declaration of Independence was finally approved. It was written and submitted to Congress on July 2, but two days of debate ensued before the final version was accepted. John Adams once said that July 2 would be the most celebrated day in American history. He didn't factor in the two days of deliberation. Other fun facts:

  • Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and James Monroe each died on July 4, with Jefferson and Adams dying on the same day
  • Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4
  • In 1870, July 4 became an unpaid federal holiday
  • In 1938, July 4 became a paid federal holiday
