As preparations continue for the start of the Republican National Convention, workers and volunteers are closing in on the completion of the RNC Leave Behind Project at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. The project, which represents credit unions’ tradition of honoring each national political party’s convention city with a “leave behind” project, is on target to be completed in time for the beginning of the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Aug. 27. The effort will be a lasting tribute to credit unions and will serve the local community long after the convention is over.
The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) along with other volunteers, have been working to build this therapeutic playground at All Children’s Hospital, a Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) designated hospital located near Tampa, the host city of the RNC. A similar effort is taking place in Charlotte, N.C., the host city of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
The project is currently in the last phase of the SECUF’s campaign to raise the $300,000 needed to fund this project, and thanks to the generosity of credit unions, vendors, and supporters SECUF is close to reaching its goal.
The “leave behind” playground project is designed to not only demonstrate the credit union motto of “People Helping People,” but to also raise awareness of the credit union social mission with legislative officials attending the RNC.
The playground is slated to be 100-percent complete on Friday, Aug .17.
