The family of Rep. Bill Young (R-FL) say he died Friday following complications from a chronic injury. He had been in the hospital for two weeks. He was 82 years old.
Rep. Young served for 43 years in Congress being elected to 22 terms representing the Tampa area. He was the longest tenured Florida House member. He first got into Florida politics in 1960 after being elected to the Florida Senate. Ten years later he was elected to Congress.
Most recently Rep. Young was a co-sponsor on member business lending legislation for credit unions. He voted in support of H.R. 1151 in 1998.
His funeral is planned for Thursday at the First Baptist Indian Rock in Largo. It is open to the public. A public viewing will also be held on Wednesday at the Bill Young Armed Forces Reserve Center in Pinellas Park.
