Tallahassee Democrat's My View Column:Free up Credit Unions

Florida Commerce CU CEO Cecilia Homison was featured in Friday's Tallahassee Democrat. Homison wrote a "My View" column about the benefits of increased credit union member business lending. The column points out a new program President Obama is looking to add by giving $30 billion of repaid TARP funds to community banks so they will lend to small businesses. Homison counters that Congress can add $10 billion by simply adjusting the credit union member business lending cap from 12.25 percent to 25 percent. She writes that it would not cost taxpayers a dime and also add 108,000 jobs.

The most telling part of the column is this point Homison made, she writes that if the cap were lifted, "...banks would still control 90 percent of the commercial loan market." You can read the entire column by visiting the LSCU Press Room.
