Provides quality loans for the Credit Union through timely and thorough underwriting and evaluation of consumer auto loan applications received via the indirect channel. Approves or rejects loans within limit of authority. Mentors other Underwriters on how to underwrite indirect loans. Works with our dealer/partners and CRIF to ensure loan decisions are delivered and communicated timely. Acts as the primary contact point for all dealer communication regarding second looks. Adheres to the policies and procedures set forth, yet possesses the ability to think outisde of the box to offer other solutions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Analyzes loan applications, credit bureau reports, collateral evaluation, member account data, financial statements, tax returns and other loan documentation in order to make consistent, sound lending decisions on auto loan applications received through the indirect channel. Serves as escalation point for questions/concerns on underwriting process/decisions for dealerships involved in the origination of loans. Maintains loan approval, portfolio delinquency, and charge off ratios within established standards. Maintains an acceptable level of quality as determined by established loan error standards. Attains and / or possesses a high level of working knowledge of the core system (Symitar) and the Indirect Loan Origination System (SAIL). Conducts rehashes, or second looks as requested by dealers / CRIF.
Provides exceptional quality service to members and other employees within Community First based on the core values. Resolves dealer / member problems. Keeps current with knowledge of Community First lending updates, criteria, guidelines, procedures, policies, and processes in order to make sound lending decisions. Acts as a mentor to other consumer underwriters with a focus on teaching them the skills of underwriting indirect loan applications.
A minimum of 3 plus years of experience in indirect underwriting including making approval/denial decisions.
A College degree.
Demonstrates strong consumer and credit knowledge, policy/procedures expertise and analytical abilities. Ability to thoroughly analyze financial statements, credit bureau reports and other financial data and document findings. Knowledge of automated underwriting tools and related technology. Knowledge of and ability to apply Community First consumer lending criteria, products, rates, processes, procedures, policies, and regulations. Knowledge of government regulations and compliance issues.
