Your participation in this year’s Hike the Hill is as important as ever. Legislation to increase the Member Business Lending cap from 12.25 percent to 27.5 percent of total assets (S. 2231/ HR 1418) is still in play, as are several other key pieces of credit union legislation. The bankers continue to oppose any legislation that would help improve products or services that credit unions are able to offer. MBL legislation has 21 cosponsors in the Senate, including Sen. Bill Nelson from Florida, and 139 cosponsors in the House (10 from Florida; 1 from Alabama). The more co-sponsors that sign on to this bill, the greater the opportunity will be to move legislation forward. In addition to MBLs, other important issues such as Supplemental Capital for credit unions, Exam Fairness, and ATM Disclosures all have legislation filed before Congress.
The LSCU visits will be held during the same time as those credit unions that will be attending the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) Congressional Caucus. The tentative agenda is listed below.
