Around the globe, major changes in the political and economic environment are impacting financial markets. New perspectives on trade, tax policy, immigration, and the regulatory state are slowing or reversing trends that have been in place since the financial crisis. Will the economy return to stronger growth? How will financial markets respond to the changes? This session will provide perspective about the current and future state of the economy and financial markets, with special emphasis on their likely impact on savers and investors.

About the Speaker:
Scott D. Knapp is the managing principal of Investment Consulting for CUNA Mutual Fiduciary Consultants. In this role he is responsible for development of the firm’s overall investment philosophy and implementation of programs that help institutional investors meet their objectives. Knapp also designs state-of-the-art portfolio strategies that provide solutions to large or complex investment challenges. He chairs the Investment Committee that approves strategy and performs due diligence on investments offered in the firm’s programs, and he is a member of the Capital Markets Committee that performs ongoing research on the macro economy and financial markets. Knapp and his team of investment professionals enable field-based investment advisor representatives to provide high-quality advice to fiduciaries and asset owners across the country.

Knapp joined CUNA Mutual Group in 1994 to serve as vice president of Marketing & Client Service for MEMBERS Capital Advisors. Prior to that, he was an advisor to institutional and high net worth investors at Shearson Lehman Hutton and Prudential Securities.

Knapp is a frequent contributor to trade press and author of several position papers that explore contemporary issues in economics and finance. He is also a regular keynote speaker at financial services forums across the country. Knapp is an active member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Madison, the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, the National Association for Business Economics, and NAFCU Economics Group. He is an adjunct professor of investments at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and he serves on the board of directors for Madison Ballet.

Knapp holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville and a Master of Banking & Finance from Boston University. He holds Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) professional designations, and is FINRA securities registered.
