Save the date and make plans to join your peers from credit union boards across the Southeast for the 2018 Southeast Directors Conference, set for July 15 – 18, 2018. This conference features a full range of informative sessions on critical, timely issues, with first-rate speakers to address the economy, lending environment, and much more.
The Southeast Regional Directors Conference is designed for credit union directors and committee members. The conference location rotates among the ten Southeastern states, giving each state an opportunity to host their fellow credit union volunteers and showcase the best of what their state has to offer. This conference features a full range of informative educational sessions that provide a conduit for learning about critical issues important to today’s ever-changing financial industry.
The 2018 program will be hosted by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and held at The Breakers in West Palm Beach, Florida. One of America’s legendary resort destinations, The Breakers is a modern-classic resort situated on 140 acres on the island of Palm Beach, Florida; conveniently located six miles from Palm Beach International Airport, 42 miles from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and 72 miles from Miami International Airport. Both Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike provide easy access to South County Road), which leads to the entrance of The Breakers.

Rebekah Gregory is a wife and mother whose life was forever changed due to the bombings at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. This act of terrorism may have claimed her leg, but it could not claim her spirit. Since then, Rebekah has used her platform in a huge way by traveling all over the country speaking out against evil and encouraging people to turn their obstacles into opportunities.
In 2017, Rebekah had her first book “Taking My Life Back” published. Shortly after, she launched Rebekah’s Angels Foundation, which she and her husband created to aid in the treatment of childhood PTSD.
Rebekah and her college sweetheart-turned-husband Chris, live in Houston TX with their two beautiful children, Ryleigh and Noah, their dog Bear, and their talking parrot, Captain Jack Sparrow.
Rob is a Principal at PreparedEx where he manages a team of crisis preparedness professionals and has over 20 years of experience preparing for and responding to crises. Part of his leadership role includes assisting PreparedEx clients in designing, implementing and evaluating crisis, emergency, security and business continuity management programs. During his career, Rob has worked for the US State Department’s Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program, as a crisis management consultant in Pakistan and Afghanistan where he negotiated with the UN and Pashtun tribal warlords and he served with the United Kingdom Special Forces where he operated internationally under hazardous covert and confidential conditions. Rob was also part of a disciplined and prestigious unit The Grenadier Guards where he served Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Palaces in London. Rob was a highly trained and experienced infantryman serving in Desert Storm and commanded covert operational teams and was a sniper. Rob has keynoted disaster recovery conferences and participated in live debates on FOX News regarding complex security requirements and terrorism. Rob has a Queen’s Commendation for Bravery.
Ancin Cooley, CIA, CISA, is the founder and principal of Synergy Credit Union Consulting, Inc. Synergy provides a range of risk management services to financial institutions, which include outsourcing credit analysis, IT audits, internal audits, and loan reviews. He brings more than 10 years of experience in the industry.
Ancin honed his skills while working as an examiner, performing safety and soundness examinations for institutions ranging from $100 million to $8 billion in total assets. He holds both the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designations. He is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Appraisal Institute, and Risk Management Association.
Ari Schonbrun was the Chief Administrative Officer of Cantor Fitzgerald and Co., one of the world’s leading financial services firms. He was responsible for overseeing and directing the day-to-day operations and administrative processes across Cantor Fitzgerald’s Capital Markets group. In addition, he is an author, speaker, and 9/11 survivor.
Mr. Schonbrun was on the 78th floor of Tower One when the first plane hit on September 11, 2001. He helped a colleague suffering third-degree burns to safety and was thrown into the national spotlight thereafter. His miraculous first-hand account of survival has been retold in newspapers, magazines, broadcast outlets, and books.
Mr. Schonbrun is a renowned inspirational speaker and the author of Miracles & Fate on 78. He draws from the personal heartbreak he endured during the devastation of 9/11, deftly weaving in his capital markets expertise after more than three decades of working on Wall Street. He speaks with energy, fluency, and wisdom, utilizing his humorous and engaging personality to stir and inspire audiences worldwide.
Mr. Schonbrun began his career in 1981 at UMB Bank and Trust Co. and was steadily promoted to head trader within the company’s Fixed Income group. He then went on to work at Cantor Fitzgerald where he spent the next 23+ years rising to the position of
Chief Administrative Officer of Cantor Fitzgerald and Co. He has since moved on to pursue other endeavors.
Mr. Schonbrun is a native New Yorker. He is passionate about philanthropy and serves as a board member of Strength to Strength, a global non-profit organization that works with victims of terror across the world. Mr. Schonbrun and his wife, Joyce, live in New York. They have five children and several grandchildren.
