Alabama Credit Union
This position exists to support the financial management and operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. It is located at the Administration Building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Accounting Clerk is responsible for providing members with an outstanding service experience within the framework of the Alabama Credit Union Shared Values, and performing a wide variety of advanced accounting work under minimal supervision.
Duties primarily include performing and processing member financial transactions for purposes such as governmental payments, other ACH and share draft-related transactions, escheatment issues, etc.; performing other transactions for members’ benefit, including ACH processing of exceptions prior to daily deadlines; ensuring for all assigned General Ledger balances that they are reconciled, stale-dated items are cleared, and transactions are documented per departmental procedures; responding to any auditor, examiner, or manager requests for GL history and substantiating documentation, including receiving and responding to member telephone requests. Minimum qualifications include three to five years working in a financial institution, a high school diploma or equivalent, good computer skills (including the ability to use Microsoft Office products and web-based applications), good oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor in potentially stressful situations, the ability to change focus efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and above all, a desire to help others in your community. The ability to provide outstanding internal member service is required, including the ability to maintain a friendly and polite disposition at all times. Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting terms and processes is required. Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification or the desire to attain this certification is preferred.
