Asset Liability Management Essentials & Implementation Training

Deborah L. Rightmire, CCUE is Vice President of Asset/Liability Management for the Texas Credit Union League. She manages the operations of TCUL ALM Resources and delivers semi-annual ALM analysis and consulting services to credit unions across theU.S.representing over 100 billion in combined assets. Debbie serves as a speaker for CUNA and Leagues across the nation. She conducts presentations emphasizing financial statement and ratio analysis, policy formulation, liquidity analysis, and investment due diligence.

As a senior faculty member of Southwest CUNA Management School, Debbie instructs, assists with curriculum development, and evaluates the Financial Management Strategic Initiative of each student’s three-year business plan.

Audiences benefit from Debbie’s prior experience as a credit union field representative for the Texas Credit Union League, service on the Board of Directors and Asset/Liability Management Committee (ALCO) of Metroplex Credit Union (now Resource 1 CU) and her 35 years in the financial service industry.
Debbie joined the Texas Credit Union League in 1979 and is a graduate of the University of Alaska.

The ALM Essentials Workshop is a full-day session (9 AM - 4 PM CT) designed for all credit union employees, Board and ALCO members who desire a better understanding of the basic asset/liability management process. The topics covered include:

  • Overview/goals of asset liability management
  • Understand NCUA’s Financial Performance Report (FPR)
  • Calculate your credit union’s key financial ratios
  • Review the Risk-Focused Examination (RFE) CAMEL System
  • Analyze an expense analysis and its implications
  • Learn how to price loans and deposits based on market indicators

The ALM Implementation Workshop (9 AM - 2 PM CT), also designed for credit union employees, Board and ALCO members, provides an overview to assist in understanding and implementing an effective asset liability management process in your credit union. It addresses such areas as:

  • Organize a successful ALM process
  • Guidelines for developing an effective Investment and ALM policy
  • Review broker/dealer due diligence
  • Develop a consistent ALCO agenda
  • Monitor, measure, and maximize liquidity
  • NCUA’s ALM - related rules and regulations and their implications
  • Review interest-rate risk/sensitivity (GAP) and acceptable ways to monitor

No pre-requisites are required of the group-live event. It is critical participants bring the following items to the workshops;

  • A copy of the credit union’s December 2011 Call Report
  • A copy of the credit union’s December 2012 Call Report
  • A calculator which will extend 4 places beyond the decimal

Conference participants can earn up to 12 CPE credits in Finance.
