Regulatory Compliance Update

Session Description:   Compliance veteran Rob Rutkowski brings you the latest update on what you need to know across a wide spectrum of compliance issues for 2013. The CFPB now has the mandate it needs to dramatically change consumer lending. Much of a typical credit union’s lending forms will need to be changed. Find out which ones and learn about what is happening to Regulation Z. Mr. Rutkowski will also discuss how open-end lending has changed as well as how to avoid discrimination cases as the justice department seeks to sue more financial institutions for fair lending violations. Finally, learn about the ins and outs of commercial lending and what may happen to the existing rules on Member Business Loans in the future. Topics to be covered include:

A basic knowledge of credit union compliance is assumed and no advanced preparation in necessary.

Attorney, blogger, podcast producer and nationally-recognized speaker, Rob Rutkowski is Managing Partner of the Credit Union and Corporate & Financial Services Groups of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A.  Through his work at WWR, Mr. Rutkowski advises credit unions on compliance, contract negotiation and employment law as well as a vast array of collection and legal issues.  Mr. Rutkowski is a well-known lecturer nationwide on topics such as marketing and lending compliance, director and officer liability, disaster recovery, identity theft, credit union accounts and a variety of laws impacting credit unions, such as the Bank Secrecy Act. He is a regular speaker at credit union leagues across the United States and has served a speaker for CUNA, NAFCU and CUES.

A former member of the Board of Directors for the Lake County Educational Federal Credit Union, Mr. Rutkowski remains very involved with the legal issues that matter to the credit union movement.  He is the Producer and Co-host of the monthly Current Issues in Credit Unions podcast ( and the author of That Credit Union Blog (, which is dedicated to covering timely credit union legal news.  He has been published in Credit Union Magazine, Credit Union Management Magazine, The Cleveland Bar Journal and The National List.

Mr. Rutkowski received his B.A. from the University of Akron in 1988 and his J.D. from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1991.  He is licensed in Ohio and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Ohio.
